Thank you San Benedetto Pacing Team!
The most fascinating thing about the marathon is its unpredictability. The components that can affect and condition this race vary from the city route with its obstacles, to the physiological changes of an athlete at any moment. The most important and certainly the most unpredictable ingredient is the weather. We can prepare ourselves to face those forty-two kilometers with care, but it’s always Mother Nature who decides how the day will go. The temperature, humidity, wind strength and direction are all beyond our control. They’re simply to be accepted as we work out a quick plan of attack in the starting area.

Last Sunday morning at Venicemarathon, the San Benedetto Pacing Team knew that the wind on the Libertà Bridge would create problems for the regularity of the race pace. Some thought gain some advantage of a few minutes before facing the bridges and the high water, but everyone knew that, on race day, the task assigned to them was to assist more runners possible to have a experience while running the marathon. Nobody expected high water in the Zattere area of the course and, nevertheless, they managed to conclude the Venicemarathon guiding large groups of finishers to the finish line. Thanks pacers and see you next year!

33rd Huawei Venicemarathon: an epic edition!
The edition that made the history of the Venicemarathon is finished. The 33rd birthday of the marathon is celebrated from over 28.000 people

Venezia, October, 31 2018 – The entire world clapped the heroes of the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon. The photos of the athletes who ran in the high water were watched in every TV channel, journal and social.

For volunteers and the organization, this day was epic. The Venicemarathon Club managed an emergency situation, caused by the strong wind and the rough sea. The organization also organized the new route that excluded St. Mark Square in a few time. We appreciate all the over 2.000 volunteers of Police, “Carabinieri”, Local Police, Municipal Police of Venice, Firefighters, “Protezione Civile” and the medical service.

The 33rd edition is celebrating by over 28.000 people: over than 10.000 people that crossed the finish line at Riva Sette Martiri and over 18.000 people that participated at the Alì Family Run.

This edition launched the “From 10K to 42K in 5 months” project: thanks to it, many people could finish his or her first marathon. This edition important also for fundraising, thanks to the Venice Marathon Charity Program.

The 2019 edition will be important for the “Impatto Zero” event: The next edition was chosen for a project for the environmental protection, that calls “Zero waste Blu sport events for territorial development”. Also in this edition there were some “green” project, like the partnership with Trenitalia and BusItalia.

The 34th Huawei Venicemarathon registrations, that will be on October 27, 2019, will be opened soon.
Mekuant Gebre and Angela Tanui win the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon
Venice, October 28, 2018 – Ethiopian Mekuant Gebre and Kenyan Angela Tanui braved the high tide, a strong headwind and driving rain to win the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon on Sunday.

In the worst conditions ever for the event, Gebre beat out a bunch of Kenyans to win the men’s event in 2h13:13 hours. Tanui, the heavy favourite, dominated the women’s event in 2h31:30 hours.

Despite the strong headwind and the heavy rain along most of the course, the runners entered Venice with promising projected final times: 2h09 hours for Gebre and 2h26:30 for Tanui.

The high tide along the final stretch inside Venice, which forced to close a flooded St. Mark’s square, caused the runners to wade through inches of water on the Giudecca waterfront and on sections of the final stride on Riva Sette Martiri, killing chances of a fast final time.

When Gebre came through there was about one inch of water, but when Tanui arrived the high tide had brought it to about three inches. With great splashes they made it to the finish.

Gebre ran most of the race together with several Kenyans, who gradually lost contact with this lone Ethiopian. He broke away after 35 kilometers, edging Kenyans Gilbert Chumba, second at 2h13:52, and Stephen Kiplimo, third at 2h13:58.

“The final stretch was really tough, but I knew I had a good lead and it was trouble for everyone,” Gebre said.

Japanese star Yuki Kawauchi, the winner of the Boston marathon this year, was seventh at 2h27:43.

“From the very start I felt my legs were not responding properly and I never really got into the race,” he said. “A bad day, but I want to come back to show I can do much better.”

Tanui dominated the women’s race with a margin of over seven minutes. Ethiopian Sorome Amente was second at 2h38:59 and another Kenyan, Euliter Tanui, third at 2h40:56.
The 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon will start
Venezia October, 27 2018 – This morning a lot of people welcomed Yuki Kawauchi, the marathon runners’ idol, at the Exposport Huawei Venicemarathon Village. Many runners came to listen and photograph the man who will run the 87th marathon, in order to become the first Japanese man to win in Venice.
“I visited Venice in these days, and it is beautiful, but I’m here to win the marathon.”
This will be a chance between Africa and Japan. The African athltes’ list is long, but the possible enemies of Kawauchi could be the Ethiopian Mekuant Ayenew Gebre and the Kenian Gilbert Kipleting Chumba. For the Italians, Luca Solone will debut for the marathon. He won the Treviso Half Marathon three weeks ago.
For the women’s runners, the top runner are the Kenian Angela Jemesunde Tanui (2h26'31'', Vienna 2017), her sister Euliter Tanui, the Ethiopian Genremkaiel Hirut and the Croatian Nikolina Sustic.
Tomorrow 13,000 runners will run the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon and the VM10K from 67 countries.
The race will be televised by Rai with three hours of live, from 9 to 12, on the thematic channel Raisport, visible on TV and on streaming on the site and in reply a few hours after the arrival, or at 15.20 always on Raisport. Internationally, the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon will reach over 80 foreign countries.

The course
After the start in front of Villa Pisani the race course of the marathon runs along the Brenta Riviera, the beautiful riverside area famous for its villas. The marathon goes then through Marghera and Mestre and cross the new cultural area M9. After running for two kilometers in San Giuliano Park, the largest urban green area in Europe, the course takes athletes to Venice through the four-km-long Liberty Bridge.
Marathon runners enter then the harbor area of Venice and then run next to the Giudecca Canal to Punta della Dogana. From here they will cross the Gran Canal on a pontoon bridge, especially built for the race.
Passing through St. Mark’s Sq. the marathon route gets to the finish line located in Riva Sette Martiri, in a scenic position facing the lagoon. The race course is basically flat and fast. There are just a few difficulties, represented by 3-4 short slopes (100 meters or so). Be careful to the tramway rails from Marghera to Venice! In the final part of the marathon route (last 3 kilometers), runners will face 14 little bridges over Venice canals. Wooden ramps are put in place to prevent athletes from running on steps and to allow wheelchairs to participate in the race. The race course is asphalted except for the track in Venice, where there are no cobblestones on the course but large rectangular stone slabs

Huawei Venicemarathon on air

Along the way will play the bands of "Huawei Music Points" coordinated by Mauro Stella that will contribute to increase the show "live" along the 42 kilometers of the route.

33rd Huawei Venicemarathon: until 1 month to the start line!
Yuki Kawauchi: “I want to be the first Japanese runner to win in Venice”

Venice, 28th September 2018 - In one month, on 28th October, the Huawei Venicemarathon will blow out 33 candles, and one of the special guests will be the marathon runner Yuki Kawauchi, who will try to become the first Japanese to win in the lagoon.

There is great expectation for this athlete, a real idol in Japan and a model for many fascinated marathon runners, not only for his feats, but also because he is a normal man, an employee who works 8 hours a day and every Sunday runs a marathon because it is more stimulating than a workout. Kawauchi has conquered everyone because he won the Boston Marathon last April in extreme conditions and for his attempt to run 100 marathons under 2h20'. Venice will be his 87th 42k career and his first race in Italy:
"I have always heard good things about this marathon - says Kawauchi - and I would like to become the first Japanese to win it. This year the summer in Japan was really hot and this has influenced my training but now, with the arrival of cool weather, I returned to run regularly and in Venice I want to finish below 2h10'. I cannot wait to taste Italian cuisine and your tiramisu: food and marathon will make this weekend unforgettable".

His presence will certainly be a stimulus for all the members of the Huawei Venicemarathon and will be a draw for those who are still undecided.

The "Huawei Venicemarathon Bus Express" promotion is still available: that is the special "all-in-one" package which offers the transportation by bus from different Italian cities, together with the registration for the race (42K or 10K), the accommodation in a 4-star hotel with various types of room and many other services that facilitate the logistics of the runners before and after the race.

Moreover, this year it will be advantageous to travel by train to Venice and Mestre with the Frecce of Trenitalia (Freccia Rossa, Freccia Argento and Freccia Bianca) offering a 30% discount on round-trip tickets in the period between 26 and 30 October. Moreover Trenitalia, "official train" of the 33rd Huawei Venicemararhon, from this year will adapt the departure times and arrival at the Mestre station of some trains (Rovigo, Vicenza, Bassano, Conegliano, Trieste and Portogruaro) to allow runners to take the last shuttles that leave to Stra, and will offer a 50% discount on round-trip tickets to all runners who travel on regional trains.

The 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon will always be an excellent opportunity to run and fundraise thanks to the Venicemarathon Charity Program, combining the sporting gesture with a donation for one of one of the NPOs that participate in the initiative. Right now, over 16,000 euros have already been collected and the great champion Alex Zanardi is once again a testimonial of the project.

The UYN® technology joins the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon
A new era of technical sport clothing has just begun at the Venicemarathon

Wednesday, July 19, 2018 - All participants in the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon will test on their skin the feeling of wearing a T-shirt realized with the most innovative technologies and excellent materials.

The UYN® Venicemarathon running T-shirt, that every registered runner will find in the race pack, is realized by the seamless technology, with all logos woven directly in the fabric; it also introduces the main brand technologies. In the upper side of the T-shirt the Hypermotion technology is used: one fabric tube, with an innovative structure that supports the right body posture and offers unlimited freedom of movement. In the chest and back zones, the Coolvent technology is integrated, so the internal structure of the fabric is crossed by many channels that guarantee the constant air flow, optimizing the comfort. Yuki Kawauchi chooses Venicemarathon for his next important Challenge
The Japanese marathon runner, who has become famous for his victory at the Boston Marathon in severe weather conditions and who will enter the Guinness World records, will take part on 28th October in the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon.
The great piece of news was already leaked out soon after the epic victory at the Boston Marathon, but the real confirmation has just arrived: Yuki Kawauchi will run the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon on 28th October.

The Japanese marathon runner whose goal is to run 100 marathons under 2h20’, will run his 87th marathon in Venice.

Kawauchi has many followers and he is beloved in the sports world, not only because he is the hero who won the Boston marathon under severe weather conditions, but because he embodies the ideal athlete who runs for pleasure; the marathon runner “next door” or better he is known as the “citizen runner” given that he runs on Sundays to have fun with his friends as races are more challenging than a normal training.

Kawauchi is not a professional athlete but an amateur, who works full time for the government of Saitama Prefecture (40 hours per week) and he runs innumerable  races, in some of them he was performing: in fact once he ran a half marathon wearing a Panda costume, or in another race he was wearing moccasins, a jacket and a tie. Due to his work he trains in his time off with his own expenses as he is not allowed to have nor manager,  sponsorship neither appearance fees, but he loves his position, he is free to decide whatever he prefers.

Yuki Kawauchi is also the man of records. He is the only runner in the world who could run two marathons under 2h09’ only 14 days apart, the shortest time in which anyone has ever done this, in addition he ran 2h08’ marathons twice just 42 days apart.

Besides he ran faster than 2h12’ in marathon 26 times so far in his career and 79 times under 2h20’. Last March the Guinness Book of World Records certified him as the world record holder for most sub-2:20-marathons, and for sure he is going to improve both records before next Venicemarathon.

Since last January he has already run 5 marathons (winning four of them), 11 half marathons, 2 ultramarathons and through 2018 he is going to run other 5 marathons, one out of which is the Venicemarathon.

Sunday 28th October, he will run for the first time in Italy and he will participate in the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon. “The Huawei Venicemarathon will be not only my first race in Italy but my first time ever in Italy. I'm really looking forward to it and will race to win. I can't wait to eat authentic Italian cuisine either! Tiramisu is my favorite dessert. Between the race and the food I know it's going to be a great weekend!" These are the first words of Yuki about Venicemarathon.

He then said: “As an athlete, my dream is to run 100 marathons under 2 hours and 20 minutes. My larger dream, however, is to combine my two passions, marathons and travel, by running marathons in every country all around the world”.

In his Palmarès we can also read that he has a personal best time on the distance of 2h08’13” and that out of his 83 marathons he won 34 of them.

Yuki Kawauchi will be for sure one of the aspirant winners of the Huawei Venicemarathon and a further reason to choose Venicemarathon for your next challenge.
“From 10K to 42K in 5 months”, a training project to fulfil a dream!
Today starts a training project, thought and promoted by Venicemarathon Club in collaboration with Julia Jones, for runners and amateurs who want to run the 33th Huawei Venicemarathon the next 28th October

Wednesday 6th June 2018 - More and more people want to run a marathon, but few of them know how to plan an appropriate training course, how to nourish themselves correctly and, above all, how to engage the 42 kilometres. The Venice Marathon also represents an important appointment that many people wait for the appeal of the course and the magic that you feel running in a unique city like Venice.

For this reason, the Venicemarathon Club, with the writer and trainer Julia Jones, has designed the project “From 10K to 42K in 5 months” thought for people who want to prove to run a marathon. It is not only a simple training plan organized by schedule, but a real project divided in two phases.

In the first part, the aim is to prepare people to run 10 kilometres in 6 weeks. From today to the 18th July a training schedule prepared by Julia Jones will be at the official website for amateurs who want to engage the 10 kilometres distance with 3 trainings per week. At the end of this first part, the focus will be moved on the 42 kilometres and the new finish line will be Riva Sette Martiri, the finish line of the 33th Huawei Venicemarathon.

In this second part, that will start in the second part of July, the “Venicemarathon Pacer Team”, that is the pacemakers of the Marathon of Venice, will be your trainers. Every week, the Venicemarathon Facebook Page will host the training plans and the experiences of people who are used to run a marathon in a precise time. For example, we could read about the runner who runs a marathon under 3 hours or about the fitwalker that runs in 6 hours. Moreover, every week, the project will be enriched with the advices of the Pro Action nutritionists.

The invitation is opened to all people: the 33th Huawei Venicemarathon is close, but the dream to run one of the most fascinated marathon of the world could be true.
Villa Pisani, the Queen of the Riviera del Brenta's Villas
Running in one of the most beautiful city in the world is a big opportunity: the work hard doesn’t change, but if you look around and don’t focus on the stopwatch, your run could be lighter. In this way, people who will be at the Venicemarathon on 28th October could be considered very lucky: the course will cross the most characteristic of Venice and the areas near Venice.
Will you be there too? All the places that you will see during the competition will make this experience more extraordinary. This is an example of what you can discover at the start line: Villa Pisani, at Stra.
The start line
Your marathon will start at Stra, a little village that is only 25 kilometres away from Venice. In the 16th century, in this area near Riviera del Brenta, rich merchants and Venetian aristocratics built their summer residences.
We could see one of this jewel at the start line: Villa Pisani, the residence of the namesake family, is considered “the Queen” of the Riviera del Brenta’s villas and it is nowadays the location of the National Museum. You can visit it in order to see exhibitions of ancient, modern and contemporary art. With its 114 rooms and a museum that conserve furniture and artworks of the of the 18th and 19th centuries, it is one of the most important places of Veneto’s tourism.
In 2008, its park was declared the most beautiful park of Italy: thanks to its original architectures, to its hedge’s labyrinth – one of the most important of Europe – and the citrus trees on the Orangerie and plants and flowers in the Tropical Greenhouse.
From 1884 various famous people have visited this villa: Wagner, D’Annunzio (who set a part of his novel Il Fuoco), Pasolini (who acted an episode of the movie Porcile), Mussolini and Hitler, that they officially met each other for the first time in 1934.
If you want to visit the Villa and the park, you can find particular itineraries in order to know these treasures from new and different points of view. The history of the Villa, of the Pisani’s family, of the rooms and the music, the women that lived in it, the food, will be the themes of your visit.
Didactive activities are also more interesting, in order to approach children to this beautiful place, educate them to our cultural heritage, creating interest and curiosity.
