The godmother Giusy Versace: "the pandemic has not canceled people's generosity".
Registration for the 6th Venice Night Trail, 11th Jesolo Moonlight Half Marathon and 36th Venicemarathon will also reopen shortly.

Venice, 15 November 2021 - The spotlight on the 35th Confindustria Venezia Venicemarathon has been lowered for a few weeks, but will soon come back on again with the opening of registrations for the three events that Venicemarathon will organize in 2022: the 6th Venice Night Trail scheduled Saturday 9 April, the 11th Jesolo Moonlight Half Marathon on Saturday 21 May and the 36th Venicemarathon which will take place on Sunday 23 October.

However, there is a marathon that has not yet crossed its finish line and that will continue its run until the end of the year. This is the 'charity marathon' of the Charity Program, the solidarity fundraising project, now an integral part of the Venice Marathon and which to date has raised a total of over 50,000 euros.

The 18 non-profit organizations participating in the initiative will still have time until the end of 2021 to be able to achieve the collection objectives set in the initial phase, even if there are associations that have already managed to reach their target. This is the case of the 'Banca degli Occhi Foundation', committed to improving corneal transplantation and researching rare and genetic eye diseases, which even exceeded its initial goal by 200%, raising € 10,024; 'Salus Pueri Foundation', which ran for Pediatric Nephrology in Padua and managed to raise more than expected (7,854 euros), 'aBRCAdabra', the association that brings together BRCA gene mutation carriers, which reached the goal of 5,641 euro, the 'Granello di Senape' which has been managing the library of the Male Prison of Venice for years and which raised 2,000 euro to donate new books to the prison and the association 'RacconTiamo con Francesca' which, thanks to the 1,539 euro, will finance the participation in training courses in Narrative Medicine for staff working in homes for the elderly.

On the other hand, the Rotary project "Run to End Polio" promoted by District 2060 deserves a separate mention, which has already collected 16,780 euros, thanks to 224 donations, but which is only halfway through its ambitious collection path, set at 30,000 EUR.

Also for the godmother of the event and testimonial of the Charity Program Giusy Versace, the edition that has just ended was a strong signal to restart: "The Venice marathon has restored confidence and energy to all of us. I was thrilled to see the athletes running and the non-profit associations get back in the game despite the difficulties. There have been many people who have shown that the pandemic has not canceled their generosity and this fills my heart. I thank the president of Venicemarathon Piero Rosa Salva and all the staff for having wanted me again by their side, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to them for the work done ".

An edition that marks the restart of the national marathon and consecrates a new Italian athlete in the women's marathon is going to be archived. A whole month of events ended with yesterday, including Venicemarathon and Alì Family Run, which made over 20,000 people run.

Venice, 25 October 2021 - The 35th Confindustria Venezia Venicemarathon & 10 K, which took place yesterday, is the triumphal epilogue of a very long sporting festival that will remain in history, because it marks the restart of the marathon at national level and the rebirth of sport in all its facets, after the year of hiatus due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

A whole month of sporting events that involved the entire Venetian territory; 10 thousand runners who yesterday gave life to the 35th edition of the Venice Marathon and to which more than 10,000 people must be added who competed in the four Alì Family Runs, organized in the cities of San Donà di Piave, Chioggia, Dolo-Riviera del Brenta and Mestre.

Results that exceed the rosiest expectations given the health uncertainty that has characterized the past months and the difficulties encountered in implementing the new health provisions. The organizers have, in fact, worked hard to respect all protocols and ensure maximum safety for athletes and volunteers.

Great success yesterday also, not only for participants and the public along the route in which about 200 thousand people were estimated well distributed along all 42 kilometers and in compliance with anti Covid regulations, but also of virtual public. More than 30,000 people followed the 3-hour live broadcast on the Corriere dello Sport website, commented by the sports journalist Cesare Monetti.

Today the triumphal ride of the blue Sofiia Yaremchuk can be relived on Raisport at 5.30 pm, who after 22 years brought Italy back to the top step of the podium of the Venicemarathon, concluding her test in 2h29'12 ". A time trial in line with the standard required for next year's World Cup.

The greatness of this event is also measured in the wealth it manages to generate in favor of solidarity. To date, the solidarity marathon of Venicemarathon, of which the Paralympic athlete Giusy Versace was the testimonial, has raised about 40,000 euros but the Charity Program does not end there, because many associations will give the opportunity to donate also in the coming months, always through the Rete del Dono circuit. In six years of activity, thanks to this project, a total of more than 1,000,000 euros have been raised.

Registration will open shortly for the 36th Venicemarathon which will take place on Sunday 23 October 2022.

Second Press Release

Venice, 24 October 2021 - There could not have been a better restart for Venicemarathon. The 35th edition that took place today marks the great return of an event much appreciated by runners and its territory; an edition with excellent technical contents, witness of a spectacular and unpredictable men's competition, and of a women's competition that discovers and projects a new blue athlete, Sofiia Yaremchuk, towards great goals. Furthermore, the splendid weather conditions favored an extraordinary participation of the public.

"We are archiving with great satisfaction a memorable edition of the Venice Marathon under different aspects - comments Piero Rosa Salva, president of Venicemarathon - On the one hand we have had important confirmations of how much this event is really awaited and felt by everyone, also considering the extraordinary audience present throughout the course. Sofiia Yaremchuk wins the 35th Confindustria Venezia Venicemarathon
Image

Debut with a bang for Sofiia Yaremchuk who wins the 35th Confindustria Venezia Venicemarathon in 2h29'12 "
In the men's field, the podium is entirely Kenyan.
Fourth place for the Italian Marco Salami, also in his debut.

FIRST PRESS RELEASE

Venice, 24 October 2021 - Sofiia Yaremchuk could not have made her debut on the marathon in a better way. The athlete of the Army Sports Center, trained by Fabio Martelli, was the interpreter of an intelligent and judicious race: she did not respond to the jerks of the African athletes near the San Giuliano Park, maintaining her regular pace, and then resuming them and overcoming them along the Ponte della Libertà to the final walkway that led her to finish at the finish line in Riva Sette Martiri with an excellent time of 2h09'12 ”. The other favorites, who had raced with the blue for a long time: 2h31'17 "for the Kenyan Marion Kibor, second clearly behind; 2h33'50 "for the Ethiopian Megertu Geletu third.

It was since 1999 (Sonia Maccioni) that an Italian had not climbed the highest hail of the podium of the Venicemarathon, while in the men's field the last victory in the Azzurri dates back to 2017 thanks to Eyob Faniel.

"I am very happy with this victory, I hoped so much and I believed in it to the end. I realized that I could have done it when I stayed in the leading group. I was a little afraid of the bridges in Venice, but the public gave me the right charge to grit my teeth and enter the final draw. I dedicate this victory to the Army Sports Center and I hope this is only the beginning ".

The men's 'crazy' race: after passing the half marathon in a quick 1h03'58 ", the trio of favorite athletes, made up of Kenyans Justus Kangogo, Geoffrey Yegon and Gilbert Chumba, first fell apart and then lost inertia, allowing the incredible return of the fourth compatriot, Anderson Seroi. The Kenyan athlete, who had already lost contact after a few kilometers from the first and was over a minute late at 'half', put in place a crazy comeback on the Ponte Della Libertà, and then overtook the treads on the bridges at almost double speed. from Venice. Andreson Seroi finished at the Riva Sette Martiri finishing line in 2h12’21 ", improving his previous record by almost a minute and a half. In second place came Julius Kangogo (2h13'34 ") and third Gilbert Chumba (2h13'55") who thus returned to the podium after the second place in 2018. Fourth, with a test of great depth, the blue Marco Salami ( 2h14'57 ") at the debut in the specialty. The 36-year-old athlete of the CS Army followed by Piero Incalza, on his debut in the specialty, was good at maintaining a steady pace throughout the race, finishing not far from the leaders and showing excellent room for improvement.

"I am very happy with this debut. I rode in progression and steady, which is not easy for someone who comes from the track, and I was amazed at myself for how well I managed the race and arrived undisturbed at the finish" - he declared. Marco Salami at the finish.

The VM10K have crowned two promising youngsters. Among the men, Andrea Mason of Silca Ultralite Vittorio Veneto won, who with 35'13 "tamed the competition of the favorite Pietro Sartore (Atl. Vicentina, 35'22") and Stefano Ghenda of Trevisatletica (35'52 " ).

Among women, the triumph of the 'daughter of art' Chiara Pizzolato. The 19-year-old from Atletica Vicentina, daughter of the great marathon runner Orlando Pizzolato (winner twice in the New York Marathon and at the Venicemarathon in 1988) ran a solo race, reaching the finish line in 39'50 ", with a large margin over her opponents. Elisa Commisso (Aristide Coin Venice) finished second in 40'28 ", while third place went to Sharon Giammetta (Biotekna Marcon) in 41'12".

They are sponsors of the 35th Confindustria Venezia Venicemarathon: UYN (technical sponsor), HOKA (official shoes). Official Sponsor: Banca Ifis, Alì, BMW, ProAction, San Benedetto, Bavaria, 1/6 H Sport, Wepere, Palmisano, M9, Corepla, Port System Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea, Nuncas, Coldiretti Venezia, Iredeem, Veritas, Virgin Active, Citrosil, Interparking, TDS, Cristiano Brussa Trasporti group, Fairnbn.coop, Costantini Vigilanza, Media Partner: Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport, Corre, Il Gazzettino, RaiSport, PMG Sport, and Sport Economy. Tomorrow's '35th Confindustria Venezia Venicemarathon 'will be the scene of an African challenge with traces of blue, with three Kenyan great interpreters of the specialty who will compete for the final victory. Gilbert Chumba is the athlete with the best accreditation time, 2h10'16 "obtained on 11 April this year in the Siena Marathon. Among other things, Chumba knows the route well having finished second in 2018 and fourth in 2017. He will have to contend with Justus Kangogo, practically at his debut in the marathon but with an excellent 59'31 "on the 'half', and above all with Geoffrey Yegon , 2h12'39 ”accreditation but announced in excellent condition, with the common goal of reaching the finish line of Riva Sette Martiri well below 2h10 '. To accompany the athletes towards this goal, a cast of exceptional 'hares' was set up, with Cornelius Kangogo, capable of 1h01'05 "on the half marathon, and above all with the South African Mbuleli Mathanga, who just a few days ago obtained a prestigious third place at Roma-Ostia (immediately after the blue Daniele Meucci) with an excellent time of 1h00'17 ”.

But the men's race will also speak Italian, with the 42K debut of the blue Marco Najibe Salami. The athlete from Mantua of Moroccan origin, registered with the Army Sports Center, after an excellent career in middle distance on the track, at 36 years old decided to try the adventure in the marathon, and will make his debut at the Venicemarathon after an excellent response on the middle distance , 1h03'53 ”obtained in Treviso on 3 October last. The cast is completed by another Kenyan, Anderson Seroi (2h13'47 "accreditation).

"After so many years on the track, it is the marathon that has chosen me - declares Salami - Running a marathon means knowing how to manage and be patient. Tomorrow I want to give everything and experience the feeling of reaching the finish line exhausted. And whatever happens ... I will do the my personal best! "

Instead it will be Kenya-Ethiopia fight, but with many blue hopes, the Venicemarathon for women. The best entry time is for the Ethiopian Megertu Geletu, 2h28'54 "obtained at the 2017 Amsterdam Marathon. From Kenya come Marion Kibor (2h29'51" of personal best) and Lenah Jerotich, making her marathon debut but with great experience on the 'half' (she boasts a personal best of 1h11'23 ”and in 2019 she won the Moonlight Half Marathon in Jesolo). The Italian Sofiia Yaremchuk is also making her debut on the 42K. The athlete of the CS Army, trained by Fabio Martelli, two weeks after the Italian title of 10 km on the road, and with a personal on the 'half' of 1h10'33 "(Terni 2020), is ready for the big jump, with the goal of a time around 2h28 '. For her, as for the other best of the women's competition, there will be a dedicated pacer of the highest level, the Kenyan from Tuscany Atletica Simon Rugut, who will launch the athletes in the first half of the competition.

"After a wonderful season of road racing I feel ready to face my first marathon. I am very happy to run here in Venice and determined to do my best" these are the words of Sofiia Yaremchuk.

On the Venicemarathon 10K it will instead be an all-Italian duel. Among women, there is great curiosity in following Chiara Pizzolato, the 19-year-old 'daughter of art' of the great marathon runner Orlando, winner of the New York Marathon in 1984 and 1985 and European silver the following year. Pizzolato will have to deal with the winner of 2019, Beatrice Scarpini.

I have never stopped in any race and have always reached every goal that I had set for myself. I carry the Halong Bay marathon in Vietnam in my heart, I love the meticulous organization of the one in Tokyo, the management of the refreshments and sponges in Chicago, but there is no finish line more beautiful and exciting than that of Venice. The UYN and HOKA brands will provide the necessary clothing (technical uniform and shoes) to the squadron made up of 55 pacer the squadron that, this year too, will give life to the UYN Pacing Team: 41 in the marathon and 14 in the 10K.

“We have a strong feeling of confidence and a great emotion in being here today to introduce the 35th edition of our event. We must not neglect all the problems in working for months with no guarantees, facing all the organization and economic difficulties, mostly connected to restrictions to secure proper health conditions. We could not cancel an event which is part of the patrimony of not just the city of Venice, but of its territory, with special emphasis this year which is the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of Venice. We felt directly responsible to the institutions and to the runners, who have continued to show their desire to run in Venice, although most of the world’s leading marathons have switched to Autumn from Spring because of Covid 19. We wish to thank all those who have stood besides us in our return to normal activity, with a special consideration for Confindustria Venezia which has become our title sponsor,” as marathon president Piero Rosa Salva said in his introduction.

“Difficulties connected to the pandemic have not stopped efforts to organize the 35th edition of Venicemarathon. On behalf of all the industrial leaders we wish to thank president Rosa Salva and company staff for their determination. Our members are the protagonists of our industrial structure, which is worth over 45 billion euro. When we were approached for  a partnership, we accepted to support the event both financially and in the organization. We are happy to take an active part in the event, which will allow runners and tourists, both Italians and foreigners, to enjoy a splendid Venice and its territory,” as said by Confindustria Venezia President Vincenzo Marinese.

In a report by the  Venice Chamber of Commerce related to the 2019 edition, the financial benefit to Venice from the marathon exceeded 10 million euro. The worldwide telecast of the event was also a strong international promotion, Cortesi said.

In addition to the marathon and the 10K, the weekend features, on Saturday, an event for school children, the Ali Family Run, at the San Giuliano park (the second largest park in Europe). The students and their families, usually thousands of attendants, run through the park over a little more than 4k to a festive picnic to celebrate the value of sports. The Riviera del Brenta is ready to welcome the 35th Venicemarathon

Stra, Fiesso d'Artico, Dolo and Mira ready to applaud the passage of the marathon runners on Sunday 24 October

Venice, 13 October 2021 - The Riviera del Brenta is also waiting with great enthusiasm for the return in the presence of the Venicemarathon and its usual colorful and festive snake that for over 35 years has 'embraced' and greets the four municipalities that overlook the Brenta river, in a very suggestive and characteristic landscape setting, along which the protagonists are the Venetian villas built in the eighteenth century by Venetian nobles.

As per tradition, the departure is welcomed by the municipality of Stra and the start-line located right in front of Villa Pisani, now also the National Museum. For some years now, the Villa has also been exceptionally open on the morning of the competition to welcome athletes, thanks to the well-established collaboration with the Polo Museale del Veneto.

Around the third kilometer, the athletes meet Fiesso D’Artico, whose name comes from the Latin term "flexum", which is the curve that the Brenta forms in this stretch. Later the name Arctico was added, in honor of Angelo Maria Artico who devised the diversion of the river to protect the country from floods.

After Stra and Fiesso, you enter the municipality of Dolo, at the sixth kilometer. In this stretch, athletes traditionally receive warm encouragement as they pass through the historic center and in particular in front of the Church of San Rocco.

From the ninth kilometer, the athletes run in the municipality of Mira, the longest stretch encountered so far, with its ancient noble palaces such as Villa Widmann, Villa Venier Contarini, Villa Mocenigo and Villa Bon.

The Riviera del Brenta therefore represents an integral and essential part of Venicemarathon.

The start of the 35th Venicemarathon is scheduled for approximately 9.30 am, on Sunday 24 October, and as always it will be a great party for this area. In the meantime, registrations for the event are continuing at full speed.

The 35th Venicemarathon & 10K also this year launches an important fundraising initiative which, in a few hours after opening, has already raised 4,500 euros.
In the meantime, registrations for the marathon and 10K on 24 October continue, an event included in the calendar of celebrations for the 1600th anniversary of the Venice Foundation.

Venice, 8 September 2021 - For years now, the Venice Marathon has become an important event for solidarity too! Dozens of non-profit associations and non-profit organizations take the opportunity of this prestigious international stage to raise awareness of athletes and the public and raise useful funds for important causes and projects. This is the essence of the Venicemarathon Charity Program, a fundraising initiative promoted, for the seventh year, together with the crowdfunding platform Rete del Dono and thanks to which a total of over € 1,000,000 was raised.

So the Charity Program linked to the 35th edition of the Venice marathon is underway, which in a few hours from the opening has already raised 4,500 euros. The collection mechanism is very simple and is based on the principle of personal foundraising, where runners become ambassadors of a solidarity project and take action to raise funds among friends and relatives. Donations are free and anyone can choose to support the project they prefer.

Also this year the projects presented are very interesting and of a different nature. There are some of international scope, such as the construction of water wells in Uganda promoted by Africa Mission - Cooperation and Development and the global fight against polio in Rotary 2060.

Others of a national nature linked to the prevention and research of breast cancer such as the AIRC Foundation, the inclusion in the educational-sports path of over 400 young athletes most in need in the cities of Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, Bergamo and Trento promoted by Sport Senza Frontiere onlus, in research in the field of biology, regenerative medicine and stem cells with the TES Foundation, for the support of carriers of BRCA genetic mutations with aBRCAdaBRA Onlus or to promote Narrative Medicine courses for staff working within Rsa with RacconTiamo con Francesca.

And, finally, the even more territorial projects, connected to local realities such as: the purchase of instruments and equipment for pediatric nephrology in Padua (Salus Pueri Foundation), economic support for Venetian women victims of violence (Iside Cooperativa Sociale), support research into eye diseases (Fondazione Banca degli Occhi del Veneto onlus), equip the library of the Male Prison of Venice with new books (Il Granello di Senape), help research on pediatric diseases (Città della Speranza) , support the school (AIDO) and support young bone marrow donors (Admo Venezia).

Helping others through a gesture of solidarity is, therefore, one more reason to run the 35th Venicemarathon & 10K, which this year will be an even more special event because it is included in the program of events for the celebrations of the 1600 years since the foundation of Venice.

In the marathon, the fastest "hare" who will accompany the athletes to the finish line within 3 hours is Gabriele Gallo, standard bearer of the Venicemararthon Running Team, who this year will run his 11th Venice Marathon, while the so-called "broom service" will be as always guaranteed by the Apulian athlete Mariella di Leo, also a pacer with great experience, who will be accompanied by Domenico Masiero and Fabio Pustetto.

The other members of the Venicemarathon Pacing Team are: Cristiano Girotto, Valerio Girotto, Gabriele Arcaro, Marco Turri, Paolo Donà, Dimitri Peron, Roberto Vio, Paolo Rossato, Marco Tricarico, Matteo Esquinazy, Massimo Preziosa, Fabio Simonato, Fabio Basei, Nicola Caiati , Alessandro Pizzi, Laura Pieretti, Ermes Capovilla, Marco Cinquantini, Giovanni Frumento, Alessandra Derme, Giuseppe Bossi, Emanuele Saiu, Marco Mannucci, Stefano Gorgosalice, Mariangela Curini, Luca Zorzi, Piertommaso Carraro, Alessio Rizzato, Francesca Sanna, Giovanni Demarco, Daniela Schiavon, Alvise Callegaro, Francesca Spinsanti, Detlef Blaesse, Andrea Leita, Astrid Gagliardi and Ilaria Razzolini.

The Running District is born: an area of very recent urban redevelopment near the Mestre train station that will become, during the Venicemarathon on October 24th, an ideal meeting and reference point for all runners and families in tow.

Venice, 25 August 2021 - There are exactly 60 days left until the great party of the 35th Venicemarathon which, after the virtual edition of 2020, on Sunday 24 October will bring fans back to run through art, history and culture, on the extraordinary route that leads from Stra to Riva Sette Martiri, in the heart of a Venice. In addition to the 42k, as usual, there will be also the VM10KM at the same time, which will start from the San Giuliano Park in Mestre and will develop along the last stretch of the marathon, also finishing in Riva Sette Martiri. Among other things, this year the event is included in the program of events for the celebrations of the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of Venice, so the athletes will experience an even more evocative and special atmosphere.

Moreover, the cross-sectional running offer is also completed by the Family Runs, promotional events dedicated to families and young people of about 5K, which will involve the Venetian territory throughout the month of October. The Family Run scheduled in Mestre on Saturday 23 October will instead become a sporting occasion also for companions and friends accompanying the athletes enrolled in the 35th Venicemarathon & 10K.

But the big news that the organizers intend to launch this year is the Running District, that is an area of very recent urban redevelopment, close to the Mestre railway station, which during the Venicemarathon, precisely due to the type of hotel offer, will become a meeting point and an ideal reference point for runners, teams, sports groups and families in tow, but above all a very comfortable logistic-receptive center. This is via Ca 'Marcello, a road that skirts precisely track 1 of the Mestre station, where there are four different types of accommodation, suitable for any need for a stay, brand new, ultra-modern, only 100 meters away from the shuttles that will take you to the departure of the marathon in Stra, at the start of the 10K at the San Giuliano Park and back. In addition, this area is connected with the cycle path that leads to the San Giuliano park and with trains and buses connected to Venice.

The four accommodation facilities, which will also host the Saturday evening pasta-party, are the Leonardo Royal Hotel Venice Mestre, which will also act as the headquarters of the marathon, the Campanile Venice Mestre hotel, the hostel of the famous international chain AO Hostels and the Staycity Aparthotel.

Another element of strong appeal is certainly the technical t-shirt, of the highest quality and great value, which all subscribers will find in the race pack of both the 42K and 10K.
The orange-colored jersey from the UYN Marathon line is a garment designed especially for runners who face long distances and who need to feel comfortable in the fit and with always dry skin. There are many technologies applied to the fabrics: from the Hypermotion, thanks to which the seams in the shoulder area have been eliminated to eliminate discomfort and constrictions and offer maximum comfort, to the Coolvent technology capable of refreshing and at the same keeping the body dry thanks to the fabric interior that favors the constant flow of air and the rapid absorption of sweat. And then the Drylight technology, thanks to which the fabric becomes ultra absorbent and eliminates the sensation of moisture on the skin. The jersey is ergonomic, ultra-light (weighs only 70 grams) and the materials used are eco-friendly and designed to respect the environment. Also present on the shirt are Banca Ifis, the “official bank” of the marathon, and HOKA, the “official shoe”.

Finally, this year the athletes will have the opportunity to opt for an insurance coverage, which can be purchased at the time of registration, able to reimburse the entire fee even in the event that the athlete finds himself having to give up due to a precautionary quarantine, for having contracted Covid, or for other causes always related to health reasons.
