32^ Huawei Venicemarathon
Eyob Faniel wins the 32nd Huawei Venicemarathon! The Venicemarathon Club athlete outperforms a great performance (2h12'16 ", down by more than 3 minutes the previous personal record) and comes first to the finish line of Riva Sette Martiri.

The race started as expected with Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes leading the race, and the group with Eyob Faniel was lingered of about a minute. Shortly after the half marathon, however, the heading group with the Kenyan Chumba, Kipkemei Mutai and Metto and Ethiopian Dawud unfortunately got the wrong course, following the drifting bikes instead of taking the subway for runners, and losing at the end about 2 minutes. Eyob Faniel found himself at the 25th kilometer heading the race, along with the Eritrean Mohammed Mussa, who, however, immediately detached himself. That of the Venicemarathon Club's athlete was a long, solitary fly, started in San Giuliano Park, continuing on the Liberty Bridge and ending at Riva Sette Martiri among the public's exultation. Second and third respectively arrived Mohammed Mussa (2h15'14 ") and Moroccan Tariq Bamaarouf (2h16'41"). It was 22 years that an Italian athlete did not win the Venicemarathon, since Danilo Goffi triumphed in 1995 in 2h09'26 ". Faniel also, with 2h12'17 "gets the second Italian performance of the year after 2h10'56" of Daniele Meucci.

Among the women, Sule Utura Gedo's net victory with a good 2h29'04 ", improving his personal record of more than 5 minutes. Second, very detached, kenian Priscah Jepeting Cherono (2h41'08 ") and third Aynalem Woldemichael (2h42'12"). With this victory, Ethiopia leads with 5 women's successes in Venicemarathon's history. Among the Italians, the best was Maurizia Cunico, 5th at the finish in 2h56'23 ".

In the Garmin 10 K, wins Natascia Meneghini (third consecutive victory) among women, and Simone Gobbo among men.

Filed the 32 ^ Huawei Venicemarathon with big numbers. An event that involved the whole territory for 4 weeks, first with the three Alì Family Run of San Donà di Piave, Riviera del Brenta and San Giuliano Park, and then with the marathon and Garmin10K. Events that attracted more than 26,000 people and contributed nearly 90,000 Euro to solidarity thanks to the Charity Program linked to the marathon and donations of the three Alì Family Run.

"We are so sorry for what happened. There was a negative but casual circumstance - the words of the President of the Venicemarathon Club, Piero Rosa Salva - I can explain it better: at that point of the course the athletes and the means of assistance that precedes the head of the race are divided. The motor vehicles take the overpass while the athletes are diverted by the staff to the pedestrian subway, then they rejoin. Yesterday, unfortunately, something did not work. Probably the vehicles were too close to the runners and the track recorders did not have enough time to give them the proper direction and then followed the cars on the overpass. Fortunately, the group of athletes was stopped before something serious could happen, infact in that street, after a few dozen meters, the traffic was regularly open. The race was heavily compromised for the group consisting of Bett, Kemei, Kiplimo, Dawud, Chumba and Metto, and some of them preferred to retire. The pursuers, including Eyob Faniel, who had a detachment of about 1 minute, found the gate closed regularly and then went on the marathon course. "
Record numbers for The 32nd Huawei Venicemarathon
Venice, Oct.19 - Record numbers for Sunday’s 32nd Huawei Venicemarathon, with a total of 14,000 runners in the 42k and 10k events.

The marathon has reached its set limit of 8,000 registrations, one third of them coming from 77 countries, one third from the northeast of Italy, and the other third from other Italian regions.

The limitation is due to restrictions at the arrival, the waterfront facing the St. George island after all runners have gone through St. Mark’s square enroute to the finish. The whole arrival area has been fully rearranged this year to better accommodate the runners, with more space and more facilities, separating the 42k runners from the 10k finishers.

The limit for the 10k was set at 5,000 but registrations from the charity organizations linked to the marathon have added another thousand. Benefits from charity are expected to exceed last year’s total of over 130,000 euros.

The marathon is the only sports event allowed to cross the Grand Canal on a special bridge set up by the municipality, and again allowed to move through St. Mark’s square – a unique experience.

The event will be televised live for three hours in Italy the morning of Sunday, Oct.22. It will also be shown live or taped in over 140 foreign countries.
Preliminary events for the Huawei Venicemarathon confirmed with record numbers
The preliminary events leading to the Oct.22 32nd edition of the Huawei VeniceMarathon have been confirmed for this year and are expected to gather up to 15,000 runners, joining the parent event in touching a new record of presence.

The three events, called Family Run because they are basically open to school students and their families, will he held for three successive Saturdays:
- at San Dona' di Piave, north of Venice, on Oct.7
- at Dolo, along the Brenta river, on Oct.14
- at Mestre on Oct.21, at the St. Giuliano park which is the heart of the organization, hosting the Expo, part of the marathon course and the start of the 10k event.

These preliminary events, whose revenue is mainly left to the schools or to charity organizations, have been growing through the years and there is expecttion they will put together up to 15,000 persons this year.
Meanwhile, registrations for the 10k have been closed at a record 5,200 and those for the marathon are around 7,300 moving towards the limit of 8,000 set by the organization.
In consideration of these larger numbers, the whole arrival area has been redesigned and reshaped to give more space and more facilities for the runners when they finish the event.
Huawei title sponsor of Venicemarathon
Huawei a world leader in the provision of information and communication technology solutions, becomes title sponsor for the Venicemarathon.

The three-year agreement begins with the 32nd edition of the marathon on October 22. It calls for a partnership in communications, for which Huawei is worldwide leader.

Venicemarathon is moving towards a new record of runners this year for both the 42k event and the junior 10k. These events are now known as the Huawei VeniceMarathon.
45 days to the 32nd Venicemarathon
On Sunday, October 22, the 32nd Venicemarathon runs from Stra to Venice.

Venice, September 7 -With 45 days to the 32nd edition of the October 22 VeniceMarathon the organizers are facing the possibility of a full house for both the 42K marathon and its 10K brother.

There are over 6,500 registrations for the marathon, with a set maximum of 8,000, and over 3,500 for the 10k whose limit is put at 5,000. Limitations are set because of the narrow waterfront in the lagoon city just after Piazza San Marco must not create problems for the runners after their arrival.

Foreign presence is up to 30% which represents a new record for the event and it shows the appeal of the beautiful course which runs along the banks of the Brenta river with its fabulous ancient villas, through the San Giuliano park (the second largest in Europe) and then into Venice crossing the Grand Canal on a specially set up bridge, into St. Mark's square (the only sports event allowed to do so) and on to the finish on the waterfront facing the island of St. George.

The Charity Program is led this year by Paralympic gold medallist Alex Zanardi and Giusy Versace, a member of the famous high fashion family. The fundraising for the 21 projects involved is up to 15,000 euros, a goal never seen at this stage in the past. Final collection is expected to hit around 135,000 euros.

In a change, the organizers have left to the registered runners the choice of the medal they will receive at the finish line through their vote.
VENICEMARATHON: IT'S NOT JUST RUNNING - San Giuliano Park
VENICEMARATHON:
IT'S NOT JUST RUNNING

San Giuliano Park

While you will be running Venicemarathon on 22 October , you won’t have to forget to take a look around you. Venice will reveal you some of its most beautiful places. Among these places there is also San Giuliano Park.
The green area in the south of Mestre is not just a large urban park, it is a work of environmental recovery - one of the most significant urban renewals and rehabilitations in Italy - as well as one of the most important places for the Lagoon enviromental study.
The area of Punta San Giuliano was originally swampy, it has been used for years as a dumping of industrial sludge and urban waste. Then, in the 90s, was born the idea to transform this area in a new green place.
The restoration project, made by Antonio Di Mambro, has transformed the area into what we see today: a fascinating and lively place, ideal for sporting, cultural and musical events, an oasis on the shores of the lagoon, halfway between Venice and Mestre, the gateway to the Lagoon.

The Park has been open since 2004.
Until today the renovated area is about 74 hectares: it is the largest park in Europe, the 19th largest in the world, as well as one of the largest urban green and articulated infrastructure in the international scene.
Inside there are green areas, recreational spaces, info point with bike rental station, children's play area, bar, picnic areas, a skating rink and a sports field, as well as a network of pedestrian and cycle paths.
It has hosted many important events, the Heineken Jammin 'Festival, the "Festival of the Wind", the international kites meeting and the Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI during his visit in Venice in 2011.
Since 2006 the Park is part of the race course of Venicemarathon: here you will be at your 30K and you will cross this beautiful green place for about 2K.
So, don’t forget to take a look around you! Let the landscape, for a few minutes, dissuade you from the fatigue!
Venicemarathon: it's not just running - Bacari Tour
VENICEMARATHON:
It's not just running

If Venice is one of the most visited cities in the world there must be a reason.
Surely more than one. For you who will run the Venicemarathon on 22nd October there are probably 42.195 causes, as many as the meters that will separate you from the finish line. We know very well that the finish line is your first aim.
But let Venice be revealed, look it more closely, maybe with your friends or with those you love. Enjoy Venice for a few days and then your marathon will become truly an experience to remember.
Be inspired by what you like most: you will not be disappointed.

Let's start with... BACARI TOUR

You have reached the finish line: 42.195 km. Whatever was your time, you deserve a reward. And if something in your marathon did not go in the right way, then maybe you should give yourself a consolation prize that will make you smile again.

In both cases Venice is waiting for you to make you taste its best tradition.

Have you ever heard the word “Bacari”?

They are small pubs, bars, taverns, spartan and not very tourist places, but very characteristic.
They belong to the Veneto’s Histoy but nowadays only in Venice a particular tradition is remained unchanged.
In these places you will find Venetian people. With them you can taste a glass of red or white wine (better known here as “ombra”) with some "cicheti", the delicacies of the Venetian happy hour: cold cuts and cheeses, toasted bread with polenta and salted codfish, fried fish, marinated anchovies and meatballs.
The top would be to organize a small tour, so you could try several Bacari!

In Venice it’s our custom going out to taste them!

Among the streets of the city there are a lot of Bacari we feel to recommend you them for their offer and for the special people you can find there.

It’s allowed not running, for this time: they are there waiting for you!

IT'S NOT JUST RUNNING

If Venice is one of the most visited cities in the world there must be a reason.
Surely more than one. For you who will run Venicemarathon there are probably 42.195 causes, as many as the meters that will separate you from the finish line. We know very well that the finish line is your first aim.

We love this city and so we have collected some proposals for you.
Be inspired by what you like most: you will not be disappointed.

THE ITINERARIES
Venice and its historic center, the Grand Canal, Piazza San Marco, but also Chioggia, Murano and Burano. If you have some days to spend in the lagoon, here you will find some itineraries that could satisfy your curiosity to conclude your stay in Venice in a memorable way.

The Historic Center
Maybe it’s obvious, but it couldn’t miss a tour of the main attractions in the old city center. Of course, it’s not the only area of interest, but if you've never seen it, you can’t lose it: for instance a hit-and-run in Piazza San Marco is a must. It’s the main point of the city, where Venetians meet each other and where the most important events get prepared: in this square for example takes place not only the famous Carnival, but it is also the landscape of the 40th Km of the Venicemarathon.
If you have the chance, you have to go on the top of the bell tower whence you can see the whole city.
Moreover, you will see that there are several places that deserve to be seen, so much so it will be difficult to see all of them (and this is a great motive to come back !).
If you have to make a choice, you should include in your itinerary:
Palazzo Ducale , a masterpiece of Gothic art, the iconic place of the city. Inside you will admire the major works of great artists like Tiziano, Veronese, Tiepolo and Tintoretto
Carlo Goldoni’s House, which houses a small museum and Venetian theatrical memorabilia
Clock Tower, also known as the Tower of the Moors. It is a symbol of Venice and its large astronomical clock gives rhythm to the life, the history and the continuous flow of time of the city for five hundred years
The Bridge of Sighs can’t miss in your tour: this bridge connected the court halls in  Palazzo Ducale to the new prisons. The best viewing point is the one from Ponte della Paglia .
The Ghetto, in Canareggio. It is the oldest and best preserved Jewish quarter in the world. Here you will be able to visit the synagogues and the museum, a unique architectural and urban complex of its kind .
The Basilica of San Marco, majestic and extraordinary. The Venetians have embellished it over the centuries with precious artifacts and works of art took from the most remote places
The Biennale di Venezia, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. It organizes important international art and architecture exhibitions and it is famous for its cinematic art exhibit.
Gran Teatro La Fenice. It’s not necessary being passionate music lovers to appreciate one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world. It hosted artists like Rossini, Donizetti, Wagner, Verdi, Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi and Luciano Pavarotti, Bernstein, Stravinskij, Karajan, Abbado, Muti. The building survived the fires in 1832 and in 2003
Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the most important museum in Italy for contemporary European and American art: masterpieces of Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism, with works by Pollock , Kandinsky , Miró, De Chirico and Dali
The tour by boat on the Grand Canal, where there are some of the most beautiful buildings of Venice
The Rialto Bridge, the oldest in Venice, was built in 1881 to cross the Grand Canal. You can reach it on foot or by boat
Art and Craft
The glass, silk and leathers processing: in Venice these are traditions still alive and deeply rooted in the culture and everyday life. Explore the city through the ancient crafts offers a particularly rich and suggestive look.
Along the Grand Canal there is Palazzo Corner which is the headquarters of Ditta Rubelli  that since 1858 has been produced fine fabrics, velvets, damasks, silks that still adorn castles and famous theaters such as La Scala in Milan and La Fenice in Venice. In Palazzo Corner you will find a rich collection of antique textile documents which comes from all over the world.
Alongthe Grand Canal there is also the headquarter of Ditta Bevilacqua, another historical firm, in Venice since 1875, which exhibits a collection of its ancient looms. Its dry goods, which are made on the original looms used in 1700, upholster the walls of the Oval Office in the White House.
In Calle dei Fuseri instead you will find the boutique of Rolando Segalin, a real footwear artist. For his handmade pieces, he uses old wooden forms. His shoes are art – works: they combine tradition and originality and for this reason they are appreciated all over the world (Tom Hanks is one of his customers).
If you are curious about glass processing, we recommend you to visit one of the ancient furnace. The major part is located in Murano: there you will see the demonstrations and exhibitions of really original works. Do not miss the Glass Museum, housed in Palazzo Giustiniani: it boasts an archaeological section with Roman remains belonging to the first and the third century A.D. and important historical pieces of Murano glass date back from 1400 to nowadays.

Chilling in Venice
Autumn is the perfect season for a boat trip. If you have the opportunity to be in Venice enough time, you will have to organize a tour in the lagoon to discover the environmental treasures that surely will surprise you (maybe on board the traditional " barigozzo ", the ancient boat used to navigate in the lowest sea bottoms).
The Venice lagoon is a complex system of land and water, of islands, some of them are really well-known, and islets, even abandoned like San Giacomo in Palude. Here in 1800  there was a cloistered convent where the young Venetian noblewomen were confined if their behavior was considered as transgressive, nevertheless it seems that even the forced exile couldn’t stop their desire for romantic and passionate love stories. Today is completely uninhabited .
The Lagoon is also Sant'Erasmo, Chioggia and, of course, its most famous islands: Murano with its glass artisans, Torcello (where you definitely have to visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta) and Burano, maybe the most picturesque island, which is also famous for its handmade biscuits. Take the opportunity to visit the headquarters of Palmisano bakery, which is a sponsor of the Venicemarathon…surely you will not regret it!
Palmisano is famous for its cookies and today it is an excellence both in our territory and in the Italian patisserie. It maintains its origins as small workshop where the typical traditional cakes were baked. Simultaneously the firm is investing resources in research, in collaboration with specialized institutes and universities, to develop modern products to satisfy the taste of the “today and tomorrow” consumers: gluten-free dishes, no yeast and preservatives added, high-protein and low-carbohydrate and low-fat proposals which are ideal for the sporty clients, especially for the Venicemarathon runners! The attention for them it is attested by the sponsorship of the Venicemarathon during the years: a tradition’s in Palmisano’s tradition.

Both the materials and the most special techniques of glass making came to Venice thanks to the trades with the East before the 1000 A.C.
Even today the city boasts a rich glass manufacturing activities, including the producing of Venetian beads, a centuries-old tradition. Despite multiple attempts to fake reproductions, you can still find authentic specimens which could be a perfect gift.

The textile crafts
The textile crafts in Venice dates back to the thirteenth century, with a particular preference for the production of silk, cotton, important from the East, and wool. Famous are velvets, damasks, brocades, tapestries, carpets and fabrics with gold and silver threads. Real works of art.
Today, weaving crafts is not as widespread, but it is worth going in search of some laboratory. In the historic center of fun to flush out the shops of artisans, you are enchanted by lace, silk shawls, velvet shoes and hats.
Shoes and bags
If you are looking for an artisan product and not for simple fashion object, in Venice you will have many chances. Shoes and bags, made of high quality leather, are among the most appreciated products of the lagoon’s handicraft. Among the uncommon there are the “Furlane”, typical slippers made of velvet and used by gondoliers.

Masks
In the native land of Carnival, you could not miss the masks. You can find them everywhere in the stands, but if you don’t want just a souvenir, you can go and look for small shops in which you can still find Venetian artisan masks, real handmade art.

Blown glass
Even this is an ancient Venetian tradition. Do not go back home without seeing a glassmaker at work, without seeing those wonderful creations: jewellery, candle holders, stem glasses, chandeliers. The best thing you can do is organising a trip to Burano and Murano but, if you can’t, you can find small artisan shops selling their products also in St. Mark’s Square.

Venice at four eyes
At the end of the XIII Century the Venetians invented the first glasses. Very good artisans still product them with different materials and shapes, sun glasses and high sight glasses. How could you resist?
The mirror of the witches
Another particular Venetian production is the mirror of the witches, have you ever heard about it? They are convex mirrors, famous for being capable of reflecting a really wide point of view. A fascinating object rich in mystery, that you have to find out!

Gondolier caps

The textile crafts
The textile crafts in Venice dates back to the thirteenth century, with a particular preference for the production of silk, cotton, important from the East, and wool. Famous are velvets, damasks, brocades, tapestries, carpets and fabrics with gold and silver threads. Real works of art.

When sport does good: Venicemarathon collected 115,000 euro for solidarity!
Alex Zanardi: "Venice Marathon is a marathon made by people with great passion and sensitivity, able every year to entice people to do good through the race "

Running not only to have fun, stay healthy and socialize, but also as a gesture of altruism for those in need. This, for years now, is the philosophy Venicemarathon which again reached a remarkable achievement in the field of charity.

The Charity Program 2016, related to the 31st edition of the Venice Marathon, has collected in fact 85,407 euros. To these we need to add 29,000 euros collected during the three Family Run the three noncompetitive promotional races which were held in San Donà, Riviera del Brenta and Mestre which will be allocated to didactic activities in those schools that have participated (approximately 17,000 euros). A part of the amount will be donated to the "Alex Zanardi Bimbingamba " (approximately 12,000 euros) for the production of prostheses for children who suffered amputations and who can not benefit from healthcare.

These good results close the Solidarity budget 2016 for the Venicemarathon Club: two sights of great value that demonstrate on the one hand that the principle of fundraising through Rete del Dono is a formula that works, and on the other that running events for families and students represent not only an important vehicle for promoting sports for young people, but also an effective tool to raise funds.

"We are once again more pleased - says the President the Venice Marathon Club, Piero Rosa Salva - Venice Marathon has believed from the beginning in charity projects. For us, the marathon is not only a great event to make people run, but especially a container of positive values and messages and that help others. We are proud with what has been done, and we will continue to commit ourselves more and more for charity".

Satisfaction for Alex Zanardi, testimonial of Charity Program since 2014 and always present and active with his association: "Those who help Bimbingamba give the smile to a less fortunate child and this is for me the true value of solidarity. Venice Marathon is a marathon made by people with great passion and huge sensitivity, able every year to entice people to do good through the race. As a testimonial of this project, firstly I congratulate the organizers for the great commitment that they bring each year into this fundraising marathon. I would also like to thank sincerely the families and students who run the Family Run helping Bimbingamba and all the "Friends Running" friends who have built a wonderful team of people who ran and raised money for us. "

Going back to the Charity Program, the nonprofit organizations that have joined the project received in total 1,186 donations made online through the Rete del Dono. The associations that have collected the most were respectively: Rotary International District 2060 '' Run to End Polio # VM16 '' with 296 donations for a total of € 28,439; the Association Family SMA Onlus '' VeniceMarathon 2016 Families of SMA P.SMArt '' with € 13 032 (120 donations) and the Foundation Salus Pueri '' Run with us for Pediatrics! '' with € 9172 (87 donations).

Here is the complete list of the associations: https://www.retedeldono.it/en/classifica/venicemarathon2016
