San Giuliano Park
While you will be running Venicemarathon on 22 October , you won’t have to forget to take a look around you. Venice will reveal you some of its most beautiful places. Among these places there is also San Giuliano Park.
The green area in the south of Mestre is not just a large urban park, it is a work of environmental recovery - one of the most significant urban renewals and rehabilitations in Italy - as well as one of the most important places for the Lagoon enviromental study.
The area of Punta San Giuliano was originally swampy, it has been used for years as a dumping of industrial sludge and urban waste. Then, in the 90s, was born the idea to transform this area in a new green place.
The restoration project, made by Antonio Di Mambro, has transformed the area into what we see today: a fascinating and lively place, ideal for sporting, cultural and musical events, an oasis on the shores of the lagoon, halfway between Venice and Mestre, the gateway to the Lagoon.

The Park has been open since 2004.
Until today the renovated area is about 74 hectares: it is the largest park in Europe, the 19th largest in the world, as well as one of the largest urban green and articulated infrastructure in the international scene.
Inside there are green areas, recreational spaces, info point with bike rental station, children's play area, bar, picnic areas, a skating rink and a sports field, as well as a network of pedestrian and cycle paths.
It has hosted many important events, the Heineken Jammin 'Festival, the "Festival of the Wind", the international kites meeting and the Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI during his visit in Venice in 2011.
Since 2006 the Park is part of the race course of Venicemarathon: here you will be at your 30K and you will cross this beautiful green place for about 2K.
So, don’t forget to take a look around you! Let the landscape, for a few minutes, dissuade you from the fatigue!
