Venezia October, 27 2018 – This morning a lot of people welcomed Yuki Kawauchi, the marathon runners’ idol, at the Exposport Huawei Venicemarathon Village. Many runners came to listen and photograph the man who will run the 87th marathon, in order to become the first Japanese man to win in Venice.
“I visited Venice in these days, and it is beautiful, but I’m here to win the marathon.”
This will be a chance between Africa and Japan. The African athltes’ list is long, but the possible enemies of Kawauchi could be the Ethiopian Mekuant Ayenew Gebre and the Kenian Gilbert Kipleting Chumba. For the Italians, Luca Solone will debut for the marathon. He won the Treviso Half Marathon three weeks ago.
For the women’s runners, the top runner are the Kenian Angela Jemesunde Tanui (2h26'31'', Vienna 2017), her sister Euliter Tanui, the Ethiopian Genremkaiel Hirut and the Croatian Nikolina Sustic.
Tomorrow 13,000 runners will run the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon and the VM10K from 67 countries.
The race will be televised by Rai with three hours of live, from 9 to 12, on the thematic channel Raisport, visible on TV and on streaming on the site and in reply a few hours after the arrival, or at 15.20 always on Raisport. Internationally, the 33rd Huawei Venicemarathon will reach over 80 foreign countries.

The course
After the start in front of Villa Pisani the race course of the marathon runs along the Brenta Riviera, the beautiful riverside area famous for its villas. The marathon goes then through Marghera and Mestre and cross the new cultural area M9. After running for two kilometers in San Giuliano Park, the largest urban green area in Europe, the course takes athletes to Venice through the four-km-long Liberty Bridge.
Marathon runners enter then the harbor area of Venice and then run next to the Giudecca Canal to Punta della Dogana. From here they will cross the Gran Canal on a pontoon bridge, especially built for the race.
Passing through St. Mark’s Sq. the marathon route gets to the finish line located in Riva Sette Martiri, in a scenic position facing the lagoon. The race course is basically flat and fast. There are just a few difficulties, represented by 3-4 short slopes (100 meters or so). Be careful to the tramway rails from Marghera to Venice! In the final part of the marathon route (last 3 kilometers), runners will face 14 little bridges over Venice canals. Wooden ramps are put in place to prevent athletes from running on steps and to allow wheelchairs to participate in the race. The race course is asphalted except for the track in Venice, where there are no cobblestones on the course but large rectangular stone slabs

Speaker and animation with DJ sets will also be at the start of the marathon in Stra, at the finish of Riva Sette Martiri and at the Giardini della Biennale to animate the after race.
Along the way will play the bands of "Huawei Music Points" coordinated by Mauro Stella that will contribute to increase the show "live" along the 42 kilometers of the route.
Among participants there will be special groups of runners which will help you to finish the race within your fixed time. These are the San Benedetto Pacers, they will be identified by colored balloons.
