37th Wizz Air Venicemarathon - great success on the first day!

Exposport inaugurated: the home of the 16,000 runners of the 37th Wizz Air Venicemarathon

The strike and the uncertain climate did not stop the charge of the 1,300 students who gave life to the last stage of the Alì Family Run this morning.

Venice, 20 October 2023 - The transport strike and the uncertain weather certainly did not dampen the enthusiasm, this morning, of the over 1,300 students from Mestre and Venice who gave life to the fifth and final stage of the Alì Family Run, the demonstrations sports promotion dedicated to the world of schools, organized by Venicemarathion to mark the lead-up to the 37th Wizz Air Venicemarathon on Sunday 22 October, held as usual at Parco San Giuliano in Mestre.
 
The departure was preceded by the Mameli Hymn sung at the top of their lungs by the students on the front line, after which a long and cheerful snake dressed in a blue t-shirt was literally unleashed for 4 kilometers along the green avenues of the San Giuliano Park, the same ones that on Sunday they will welcome the passage of marathon runners.
 
Present to applaud students and teachers were the vice mayor of the Municipality of Venice Andrea Tomaello, the councilor for educational policies Laura Besio and the councilor for territorial promotion Paola Mar.
 
Sprint finish in the men's race, where the fifteen-year-old student of the Algarotti Higher Institute Tommaso Rossi prevailed over Gianluca Nasca, a 13-year-old student of the 'Giuseppe di Vittorio' secondary school. In the women's field it was twelve-year-old Maddalena Sponza, a student of the 'A' secondary school. Manuzio', to cross the finish line first.
 
This year the Alì trophy was won by the Istituto Comprensivo di Mestre 'Viale San Marco' which, with 420 students, won the prize for the largest school. Also on the podium were IC 'Cesco Baseggio' with 302 and 'Francesco Algarotti' 190.
In addition to councilor Besio, the students were rewarded by Christiano Costantini of the Rotary Venezia Mestre, Alberto Cecchetto of the Rotary Club Venezia Castellana and Tommaso Tirolese of Rotaract.
 
Thanks to the collaboration with 'The Human Safety Net', the students of 'Viale San Marco' will have the opportunity to visit (with a companion) the interactive exhibition ''A World of Potential' hosted on the third floor of the Procuratie Vecchie, House of The Human Safety Net, in Piazza San Marco in Venice. Likewise, all participants will be able to access the same Exhibition via a '2x1' entrance ticket.
 
Once the awards ceremony was over, it was the turn of the official inauguration of the 32nd Exposport Venicemarathon Village, which this year will be the home of the 16,000 athletes registered in the three distances.
 
Stefano Fornasier, vice president of Venicemarathon and sole director of Idea Venezia, the company that designs and implements the fair part, is satisfied with the restart of Exposport: "For two days this will be the home of all those registered and not only, and like every year we try to make it welcoming and full of proposals: from clothing to shoes to the essential products for hydrating during exercise". Together with Fornasier, the president of Venicemarathon Piero Rosa Salva, the general coordinator Lorenzo Cortesi and some exponents were present on stage. of the Venice Police Headquarters, the Mestre Railway Police and the Mestre Carabinieri.
 
"Exposport is a project that has existed for 37 years - explained Rosa Salva - and if we were to make an estimate of all the people who have passed, it would certainly exceed one million attendees. We are happy with the trust that we receive every year from athletes, institutions and sponsor."
 
Finally, Lorenzo Cortesi recalled the extraordinary numbers of this edition, thanking the main sponsors: "The Wizz Air Venicemarathon is a large family that tries to retain companies every year that can feel an integral part of all our projects".
 
Tomorrow, Saturday 21 October, again at Exposport, the presentation of the Top Athletes is scheduled at 11am at the Exposport Venicemarathon Village and at 5.30pm the Marathon Runner's Mass will be celebrated again by the parish priest Don Roberto Donadoni and Don Marco Carletto, registered athlete for Athletica Vaticana (the sports representative of the Holy See), starting its sixth Venicemarathon this year. The mass will be celebrated in the church of San Salvador (San Marco district, not far from the Rialto Bridge). At the end of the celebration, there will be the marathon runner's prayer in different languages and the blessing of the athletes with their bibs.
 
Finally, the agreement with the Veneto Regional Museum Center has been renewed again this year, granting free entry to Villa Pisani to all participants, from Wednesday 18 October to Tuesday 24 October. The Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, the largest museum center in the city, also renews the agreement by opening its doors to all members and their companions. From the 21st to
